Soap Challenge Week 7

This week Amy Warden from http://www.weebly.com/weebly/main.php# challenged us to make a gradient color soap.  The soap didn't turn out at all like I had imagined it would.

This was my first time making a gradient soap, using pigments and a fragrance oil and probably my last.  At least for awhile.

I used a strawberry fragrance oil.  I wasn't sure how much I should add so after reading what I found online I added 7 grams to my 1lb of soap.  The scent right now is barely there.

I used ultramarine pink oxide for my colorant.  I'm not sure why they call it pink because when I opened the jar it looked very purple!?

The consistency of the soap was starting to get thick on my last two layers.  I can see now that I should have waited longer before adding each layer, the lines are definitely not straight!

Hi Vicki - I would typically use at least 0.5 oz. of fragrance for a 1 lb. batch - which would be 14 grams. And yes, ultramarine pink isn't a true pink. I'm not sure how you get a pink from it!! LOL! Don't get discouraged from this - your soap looks really good, actually! Lines are rarely completely straight with this technique - it just adds to the character of the soap!

Truthfully, I like the lines when they are NOT straight! I think it looks more like a landscape and has much more interest. Just my opinion for what it's worth :-D Your gradient is so pretty - purple is my favorite color, so I'm loving it and your photography really sets the soap off. Well done !!! ~Suzy
