Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs
Q. What is Sugaring?
A. Sugaring is a 100% natural, skin friendly version of waxing. It doesn't use strips, spatulas or heat! The sugar paste is made from sugar, water and lemon juice. It's applied by molding the paste onto the skin and removing with a flick of the wrist. ZERO risk of burning the skin or lifting. It can not adhere to the skin so it only removes what we want it to, hair!

Q. Why sugar instead of wax?
A. There are a lot of reasons but for me I have found it to be more effective at removing all of the hairs.  Waxing removes the hairs the opposite direction of hair growth which can cause 30% of the hairs to actually break or snap off during the removal. This can leave a feeling of stubble or hairs that grow back quickly after waxing. Sugaring removes the hairs the same direction they are growing, preventing them from breaking and more effective at removing all of the hairs.

Q. My period just started! Can I still get sugared?
A. Yes, you can get sugared during your period. Sometimes you just can't avoid it! You must wear a tampon or diva cup during your appointment. I work around this everyday and it does not bother me.

Q. Is this going to hurt?
A. Yes. Will it be as bad as you think? No. Brazilian sugaring is something you have to try at least twice before you decide if you like it. The pain caused from sugaring is due to the size of the root on the hair. The root continues to grow the whole time it's in the skin. The first time you get sugared the root will be much larger than your second appointment four weeks after. It's also common to have 50% less hair so less hair plus smaller roots equals a much easier experience!

Q. What if I change my mind after we get started?
A. No problem! If at any point you think this is the dumbest idea you've ever had, we'll even you up and be done.

Q. What if I don't want ALL of the hair gone?
A. We can take as much off as you want. It's common for people to leave a landing strip of hair on top of the pubic bone.

Q. Should I do anything to prepare for my appointment?
A. Ibuprofen 20-30 minutes prior to your wax will help to prevent inflammation of the hair follicles. Shower and exfoliate the evening before your morning appointment. If you have an afternoon/evening appointment shower, exfoliate morning of.
*Do not use any lotions or creams for 48 hours prior to your appointment.
*Do not tan within 3 days of your appointment or 3 days after

Q. How long do I need to let the hair grow before getting sugared?
A. You need a minimum of 7 days of hair growth. If you think your hairs are too long no worries....I will trim them the length I want them before sugaring.

Q. What should I do after getting sugared?
A. You should avoid sun exposure and any activity that causes you to sweat for 24 hours. Also no oils or creams. No hot baths or hot tubs for 24 hours.
